CPP working with partners at Brazilla's 8th Annual National Congress for the Rights of Children

A national child rights conference put on by the government unit of CONANDA (National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents) in Brazil is in progress until December 9, 2009. The 8th National Conference on the Rights of Children and Adolescents brings together senior decision makers from across the country for the purpose of devising a plan of action for presentation to the Brazil Presidential candidates in August 2010.

CPP’s Micheal Montgomery and Brazil coordinator Luiz Rossi are in the field with our Brazil partners NECA, Plan, Childhood Brazil and SaferNet participating at the “City of Rights” event being held for children in conjunction with the conference. From December 7-9, approximately 10,000 people will pass through these events. Micheal Montgomery comments that, “In groups of 20, a minimum of 2000 school children will have 25 minutes in our space - a basic introduction to the issue of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled child sexual exploitation followed by the completion of one of three interactive scenarios depicting children engaging with ICT. At the end, they come together to discuss their stories.” This is a great example of mobilization and mainstreaming of child rights and will act to raise awareness about child rights and CPP in Brazil.
